Geopolitics, the Nuclear Issue, and the Middle East Geopolitics, the Nuclear Issue, and the Middle East

 
The seminar was organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies, in cooperation with the International Insitute for Strategic Studies.

This workshop aimed to bring together Russian, European, American, Iranian, and Arab participants to discuss a wide range of issues ranging from the viability of the nuclear agreement, that was, the Joint comprehensive plan of action (JCPOA), to the more common regional issues and potential cooperation in the Middle East.

Special attention was  paid to the consequences of the US withdrawal from the agreement, as well as  to the general problems of geopolitics in the Middle East, the role of the United States, Turkey, Iran, and Russia, and other actors in the region, as well as the importance of the Astana process for normalization of the situation in Syria.

Discussions were  held strictly off the record, unofficially, and strictly in accordance with the draft agenda.
