On May 22nd, the first meeting of the scientific and practical seminar "Theory and Methodology Issues of History: Information and Communication Aspects" was held at the Institute of Oriental Studies.

The representatives of the leading scientific and educational centers of Russia took part in the seminar. According to the organizers' plan, the workshop should become a permanent platform for discussing the information and communication aspects of the theory and methodology of history and related sciences on the basis of the Institute of Oriental Studies, including using the latest information and communication technologies (ICTs).

The introductory speech was presented by A.K. Alikberov, the Deputy Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, who revealed wide horizons of information application and communication approaches for solving actual issues of the theory and methodology of historical science. Y.V. Kuzmin (TsAGI) made a very interesting speech: "Methodological problems of historical science." In his report he emphasized the tasks of isolating, identifying, and preserving primary historical information. N.I. Bystritsky (MSU) made a report that contained recommendations for the reduction of the problems of historical terminology. 

The unfolding wide-ranging discussion took place in an informal, friendly atmosphere. The  representatives of various domestic schools and institutions discussed the most pressing issues of historical knowledge and the possibilities of its solving by the means of the existing methodology. The specialists also offered their vision of perspective methods and technologies in the future. The participants of the seminar were very interested in the speeches of E.S. Grishina (RANHiGS), L.N. Mazur (URFU), P.A. Olhova (BelSU), Yu.B. Cetlin (IA RAS), as well as A.Yu. Pitenin (IOS RAS) on the creation of a software tool for improving the workshop effectiveness.

The seminar demonstrated the undisputed interest of scientists in the emerging theories and concepts in the field of the theory and methodology of history. It was suggested to combine the discussion of deep theoretical and methodological issues with analysis and examples of new information techniques usage. Practical topics were suggested as the agenda for the next meetings: information and communication approaches implementation, improvement of the historical-system concept, operation with fuzzy data in research projects, historical research of networks, implicit components of historical knowledge, semantic content recognition and analysis of monuments and ancient scripts with software tools help and etc.
