Lecture by S.Paley "The Amazing History of Easter Island: Mysteries of the Past and the Present"

The lecture hall "The World of the East" continues to work in full-time mode.

Lecturer:

Sofia Paley, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Researcher at the Center of South-East Asia, Australia and Oceania, Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences)

Annotation:

Easter Island or Rapa Nui is located in the South Pacific Ocean. It is the most interesting place on Earth from a historical point of view.

Questions such as the amazing moai statues' origin and the forgotten script deciphering on the kohau rongo-rongo tablets in the 20th century were shrouded in mystery.

Easter Island went through a difficult path in the 21st century when most of the secrets had been revealed. The island had internal socio-political problems associated with the desire to receive more autonomy from Chile.

How does Easter Island live today? To what extent is it involved in international relations? Are there unsolved mysteries on the island? The lecture will be devoted to answers to these burning questions.

The lecture hall "World of the East" invites everyone to join its work.
Meetings are held once a month, every third Thursday, beginning at 17:30, at:
Moscow, st. Rozhdestvenka, house 12, Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences), (Metro station "Kuznetsky Most"), room 222. Free admission.
