International Conference Dedicated to the Prince Nicholas Romanov
The international scientific and practical conference on the Eastern journey 130th anniversary of the Heir Nikolai Romanov was opened on the 26th of March, 2021. The event was organized by the External Relations Committee of St. Petersburg. It took place in a remote format.
The following officials addressed the conference participants with greetings: Vladimir Kasatonov, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Vice Admiral, Ludmila Vorobieva, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Indonesia and concurrently to the Republic of Kiribati, the Democratic Republic of East Timor and the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, Yevgeniy Tomikhin, the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand, and Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok.
Vladyka Sergius, the Metropolitan of Singapore and Southeast Asia, Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, made a video speech during the opening ceremony. Jose Antonio Morato Tavares, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Russian Federation, presented a video greeting.
Dmitry Petrovsky, the Responsible for the Asian Direction of the External Church Relations Department, the Adviser to the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, presented a report on the topic "Spiritual and Humanitarian Dimension of the Prince Nikolai Romanov’s Eastern Journey - History and Prospects".
Alexey Popov, ex-Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City (2015 - 2021) spoke on the sojourn of the Prince Nikolai Romanov in Saigon.
Petr Tsvetov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Russian-Vietnamese Friendship Society, the Associate Professor of the International Relations Department of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Federation Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ph.D., shared in his report the history of Prince Nikolai’s journey to the East in the world politics context at the end of the 19th century.
The report of Nikolai Miklukho-Maclay, the Head of the Study Center of the South Pacific Region of the Institute of Oriental Studies, the President of the All-Russian Researchers Association of the South Pacific Region, the Founder and the Head of the Miklouho-Maclay Fund, drew a parallel between the studies and travels to the East of two Nikolais - Romanov and Miklouho-Maclay. Then he spoke on the public diplomacy influence and the respect principles of the world cultures. These principles were laid on the basis of the Russian statehood and were used by Russian researchers and travelers.
The External Relations Committee of St. Petersburg plans to hold a second conference on May the 11th, 2021. During this event the visit of Tsarevich Nicholas to China and Japan will be considered.
