Conference "Historical, Cultural, Interethnic, Religious, and Political Relations of Crimea with the Mediterranean Region and the Countries of the East"
The conference was organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences), the State Historical Archaeological Museum-Reserve "Chersonesos Tavricheskiy", and the Sevastopol State University.
The 5th international scientific conference "Historical, Cultural, Interethnic, Religious, and Political Ties of Crimea with the Mediterranean Region and the Countries of the East" was held on the 2nd-6th of June, 2021.
The conference was held on the basis of the State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve "Chersonesos Tavricheskiy" (Sevastopol). A collection of conference materials was published for the opening. The conference sessions were held during the period of three days. 85 reports were submitted and published in order to participate in the scientific forum. The authors of these reports represented 36 academic institutions, higher educational establishments, museums from the Russian Federation and the foreign countries (Armenia, Turkey, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria). Independent researchers presented their publications as well.
78 researchers attended the conference personally, 60 of them read reports, some reports were also presented online. The students of the Sevastopol State University, independent researchers, journalists interested in the history and culture of Crimea attended the forum as well. In total, over 150 people took part in the conference in three days. During the forum work a cooperation agreement was signed amid the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences) and the Institute of Archeology of the Crimea (the Russian Academy of Sciences). The agreement consolidated the long-term close scientific contacts of the two academic institutions.
The work of the 5th international scientific conference "Historical, Cultural, Interethnic, Religious and Political Ties of Crimea with the Mediterranean Region and the countries of the East" was built within the framework of the nine sections that had become already traditional. These sections were devoted to the political, trade, and cultural ties of the Crimea with the Mediterranean Region and the countries of the East, written sources on the region's history, historiography, and cartography of the Mediterranean and Black Sea areas, the Crimea ethnic history, the Empires struggele for the Crimea. The special forum sections were devoted to archaeology (including underwater archaeology), numismatics, epigraphy of the Crimea in the context of the peninsula economic and cultural ties. The following exhibitions opened in coordination with the conference work: exhibition “Under the Shadow of St. George Cross. Fortress Chembalo According to Archaeological Data " and the photo exhibition presentation "Underwater-Archaeological Research of the Sevastopol State University and the Institute of Oriental Studies in the Syrian Arab Republic."
The conference resolution noted the importance of this scientific forum and the necessity to continue the tradition of its annual holding.
