Marianna Arunova (1929-2021)

 
The Study Center of the Near and Middle East of the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences) informs with regret that Marianna Arunova has passed away on the 5th of August, 2021.

Marianna R. Arunova has died at the age of 93. She was one of the oldest employees of the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences). She had worked at the Institute since 1956. 

She was a prominent scientist-orientalist, political scientist, consultant to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, author of numerous works and studies on Afghanistan and the neighboring countries. She enjoyed great respect and authority among her colleagues and numerous students. The bright memory of her will remain in our hearts forever.
