International Conference "100 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Russia and Mongolia: From Friendly Relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership"
On October 20st-21nd, 2021, the Center for Archival Research and the Korea and Mongolia Department held an international scientific conference "100 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Russia and Mongolia: From Friendly Relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."
The conference was organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences), the Institute of History and Ethnology (the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the Embassy of Mongolia in the Russian Federation, the Russian Society of Mongolian Studies, and the Society of Mongolia’s Friends.
The main topics of the conference:
- 100 years of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mongolia: history and modernity;
- Сomprehensive strategic partnership: development factors, prospects;
- Trade and economic relations: history, problems, new projects;
- Cooperation in the humanitarian field (education, science, culture): achievements, problems, prospects.
At the beginning the conference participants paid tribute to the memory of Mark Golman. He was the leading Russian Mongolian scholar of the world level, the Chief Research Fellow of the Institute, the Honorary Member of the International Association of Mongolian Studies, the Honorary Doctor of the Institute of History and Ethnology of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia, Doctor of Historical Sciences. Mr. Golman passed away on the 5th of September 2021.
A.Alikberov, the Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and N.Romanova, Deputy Director for Science, Candidate of Historical Sciences, greeted the conference participants with a welcoming speech.
V.Grayvoronsky, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Chief Researcher, the Head of Mongolia Sector of the Department of Korea and Mongolia of the Institute of Oriental Studies, was awarded the highest scientific award of the Institute - the medal of I.Yu. Krachkovsky, by the decision of the Directorate and the Academic Council. A.Alikberov, the Director of the Institute, Doctor of Historical Sciences presented the medal to Mr.Grayvoronsky.
On behalf of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Russian Federation, D. Davaa, the Minister-Counselor of the Embassy D. Unubilegt made a speech. Mr.Davaa stressed the importance of signing the Agreement on the establishment of friendly relations between the governments of Mongolia and the RSFSR on the 5th November 1921.
A.Dorzhiev, the Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation focused in his speech on the events held in Russia and Mongolia in connection with the anniversary.
V.Babushkin, the President of the Society of Friends of Mongolia, retired Air Force Colonel, spoke briefly on the activities of the Society.
Dr. Ts.Tserendorzha, the Director of the Institute of History and Ethnology (the Mongolian Academy of Sciences), and Dr. D.Zolboo, the Director of the Institute of International Studies of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, greeted the conference participants at the plenary session.
About 40 researchers from Mongolia and Russia took part in the scientific forum.
A wide range of issues was discussed at the conference. These issues were related to the history of the Treaty signing on friendly relations between the governments of the RSFSR and Mongolia, the current state of the Russian-Mongolian strategic partnership, political, trade, and economic relations, the work of joint expeditions in Mongolia, and cooperation in the humanitarian field (science, education, culture).
