Representatives of the diplomatic, military, and scientific circles of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, including employees of the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences) took part in the international webinar "Pakistani-Russian Strategic Relations".

The international event was held on the 6th of January 2022 at the initiative of the Strategic Vision Institute (SVI) in Islamabad. The discussion meeting was held online (on the ZoomCloudMeetings platform).

The webinar was attended by the following people from the Pakistani side: Zamir Akram, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to India, the United States and the UN, Zafar Iqbal Cheema, SVI Director, Ahmad Khan, Director of the Analytical Center for Regional Studies at the University of Peshawar Shabir, as well as the leading employees of the National Defense Universities and Modern Languages ​​Universities, etc.

The researchers of the Institute of Oriental Studies took part in the webinar work and made reports: I.N. Serenko, the senior researcher from the Pakistan Sector of the Center for the Countries of the Near and Middle East Study (“Russian-Pakistani Partnership within the Framework of the SCO”) and V.I. Sotnikov, the senior researcher of the Economic Issues Department of the Institute of Oriental Studies (“The Current State and Development Prospects of Trade and Economic Cooperation between Russia and Pakistan”). 

The Russian and Pakistani participants of the international webinar discussed a wide range of issues on the current trends in bilateral relations between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the context of an unstable situation in the Central and South Asia region. They stressed the need for joint efforts by Russia and Pakistan on a bilateral and multilateral basis, using the capabilities of such international organizations as the SCO, the UN, etc., to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, ensure regional security and stability in order to implement numerous integration projects aimed at achieving sustainable economic development of the Eurasian states.
