Seminar of Sh.Shikhaliev "Islamic Manuscripts from Private Collections and Muslim Subjectivity"
Sh.Shikhaliev held a seminar “Islamic Manuscripts from Private Collections and Muslim Subjectivity” on the 8th of February 2022 in Paris (France), at the Center for the Study of Society and Religions of the French National Research Center (Groupe Sociétés, religions, laïcités. PSL / Ecole pratique des hautes études, Le Center national de la recherche scientifique / CNRS, Paris).
The seminar was organized within the framework of the research topic “Muslim Hagiographic Experiences in the Former Soviet Realm”, which is part of the international project “Red Golden Legend” (see: https://redgold.hypotheses. org/), dedicated to the study of the "holiness" culture in the post-communist Islamic world. Russian researchers in this project are represented by two researchers from the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences): V.O. Bobrovnikov (project coordinator) and Sh. Shikhaliev (research group member).
In the report of Sh.Shikhaliev shared his experience in studying Islamic manuscripts, spoke about new approaches to studying private collections (using the example of a number of private collections of manuscripts in Dagestan), based on the Muslim subjectivity study through a statistical analysis of the genre repertoire of Islamic manuscripts and books.
The different genre composition of manuscript collections is determined due to different ideological schools' influence, trends, changes and perceptions of new educational institutions, and ideas that ultimately affect the formation of his own and independent collection.
