International Conference International Conference "Islamic Republic of Pakistan: Problems and Prospects of Development (to the 75th Anniversary of Independence)"

 
The scientific conference was organized by the Study Center of the Near and Middle East Countries of the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences) with the assistance of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Moscow.

The Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted an international scientific conference "The Islamic Republic of Pakistan: problems and development prospects (on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence)" on the 26th of September 2022.

The international scientific conference was organized by the Study Center of the Near and Middle East Countries with the assistance of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Moscow. 

The event was attended by representatives of the Pakistani and Russian Embassies in Moscow and Islamabad, a high-ranking delegation of Pakistani senators led by Senator Waleed Iqbal, the honorary speaker of the conference, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, as well as the Heads and employees of the leading think tanks, institutions, and various organizations of Russia and Pakistan. This event was held in a mixed face-to-face format using the Zoom platform.

The conference was opened and held by Professor Vyacheslav Belokrenitsky, the Head of the Center. Natalya Romanova, the Deputy Director for Scientific Research, delivered an opening speech. The opening speech on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Pakistan's independence was delivered by Shafqat Ali Khan, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Russian Federation. The guest of honor of the international conference, Senator Walid Iqbal, also addressed its participants with a welcoming speech. Dr. Masuma Hasan, Chairman of the oldest Pakistani Research Institute of International Relations (Karachi), also celebrating its 75th anniversary this year addressed online the international forum participants with a welcoming speech.
 
The conference work was held in several sessions. During the first session, the leading scientists and experts from academic institutions, centers and organizations of Pakistan presented their reports.

The moderators of the second session were Professor V. Belokrenitskiy, the Head of the Study Center of the Near and Middle East Countries and I.N. Serenko, the Scientific Secretary of the Pakistan Sector of the Study Center of the Near and Middle East Countries. Within the second session framework,the Russian scientists and experts made presentations on a wide range of topics on Pakistan studies and states regionally close to Pakistan.

At the conferencethe presentation of the three-volume Encyclopedia of Muhammad Iqbal (in Urdu) took place with the solemn ceremony of its donation to the Institute of Oriental Studies by the Senator Walid Iqbal, the grandson of M. Ikbal, the outstanding Pakistani poet and thinker. 

The presentation was held at the Eastern Cultural Center of the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences). Ms. Ravandi-Fadai, the Head of the Eastern Cultural Center, addressed the solemn event participants with the greeting words. Then, Shafqat Ali Khan, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Russian Federation delivered an opening speech on the occasion of Muhammad Iqbal Encyclopaedia presentation.





The work of this international scientific conference received wide coverage in Russian and Pakistani media:
