On January 8, 2024, the First Valdai Club Russia-India conference, organized jointly with the Club’s partner, the Vivekananda Foundation, was held in New Delhi. The Russian delegation included two scholars from the Institute of Oriental Studies – Dr. Ruslan Mamedov, senior research fellow at the Center of Arab and Islamic Studies, and Dr. Lydia Kulik, senior research fellow at the Center for Indian Studies.

The program of the conference consisted of an opening discussion and two sessions devoted to the tendencies of world order transformation and bilateral relations between Russia and India.

Dr. Mamedov presented a paper about Russia and India’s approaches to multilateral relations in Asia and security in the Middle East at the “Tendencies of World Order Transformation (Multipolarity, Regional and International Security, Sanctions)” session. The next session “Russian-Indian Bilateral Relations” was marked with Dr. Kulik’s paper dedicated to the state and prospects of economic cooperation between Russia and India.

Russian participants also attended a meeting with officials of the Indian National Security Advisory Board.
