200th Anniversary of the Institute of Oriental Studies. Exposition Opening Ceremony
The exposition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Institute of Oriental Studies was opened on May 28th, 2018 in the State Museum of Oriental Art as the first event of the commemoration agenda.
The Institute of Oriental Studies of Russian Academy of Sciences is a renowned, internationally commended academic center that conducts research on numerous issues of Eastern nations and cultures. The Institute’s academic work covers a number of regions extending from Northwestern Africa to Pacific Islands, the historical timelines vary from the ancient era to the present day.
The exposition was officially opened by V.V. Naumkin, the Institute’s Academic President, the member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Alexandr Sedov, Director of the State Museum of Oriental Art, leading researcher of the Institute, Professor Nikolai Makarov, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Metropolitan Feofan, Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, and Maxim Shirokov, Director General of Unipro Company.
The exhibits such as archive documents, expedition notes, and reports, Tibetan Thangka paintings, and woodcuts from the collections of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Khmer and Burmese manuscripts, and works of Eastern arts and crafts provided by the Museum, were demonstrated at the event.
